In April 1944 the First Reformed Church of Evansdale began its meetings at the YMCA Outpost in Evansdale. 15 people were present. Formal organization of the church took place in October of the same year. In November the current name was chosen for the congregation and groundbreaking ceremonies were held at the current location. On July 13, 1947 the cornerstone was laid on the new building which was dedicated in February of 1948.
In March of 1970 groundbreaking took place to add a fellowship hall to the north side of the existing building. In April of 1977 another groundbreaking ceremony took place to add a new addition onto the original sanctuary. This new addition was formally dedicated one year later in April of 1978.
First Reformed Church began as a missionary church plant and has continued to have an active interest in both domestic and foreign missions all through its history. Our first foreign missionaries were sent by the RCA to the Philippines. Today we support missionaries in many countries around the world and in the United States as well.
First Reformed Church has had a great continuity of membership over the years. Many descendants of the first members are still active today in the second, third, fourth and even fifth generations. These families and others who have joined them over the years extend a heartfelt invitation to you to find the grace of God and peace in Jesus Christ as you worship with us.
