Doctrinal Statement
The Reformed Church has three historic statements that declare our faith and its meaning. They are: The Heidelberg Catechism, The Belgic Confession and The Canons of Dort.
They can be summarized in the following statements.
- We believe the Word of God as delivered to us to be true and reliable in every sense.
- We believe in the eternal triune God who is revealed to us as the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- We believe the three persons of the Trinity to be One God.
- We believe that Jesus Christ, God the Son, was born of the virgin Mary, lived a completely sinless life, died for our sins and not His own, was buried and bodily raised from the dead on the third day.
- We believe that He is ascended into heaven where He now sits at the right hand of the Father and that He is coming again.
- We believe that all men are sinners by birth and by choice and that all are thus rightly condemned to death both physical and in spiritual/bodily torment forever.
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the only acceptable sacrifice for the sin of mankind and that God in grace offers salvation from sin’s curse through Christ alone.
- We believe that salvation is by the grace of God through faith in the finished work of Christ. We bring no merit to our salvation and add none to it after we are saved.
- We believe that the Holy Spirit is the means of Christ’s conception, that He is a real person (as opposed to an idea or an influence) and that He is in the world today to do the following things: convict sinners of their need for salvation, regenerate those who believe, teach, guide and comfort the children of God in Jesus Christ, and to gift and enable the church to rightly serve God.
